TTRPG Tip 51. The combat pillar of D&D and its clones is the most important pillar. Why? Because the game tells us that by having many more pages and rules about combat and few about the other pillars. Where you focus the game loops and the transition from game to story is what your game is about.

Non-artists: please gently let your well-intentioned niche blogger friends know that generating an AI illustration for their posts is not a harmless novelty. There are so many sources for free, eye-pleasing, not-environmentally-rapacious images. Creative Commons licenses, public domain art history.

I think they ought to start naming them after major corporations who contribute significantly to climate change. Hurricane British Petroleum. Hurricane Nestle.

I'm putting together a game release calendar for Rascal! Most of that involves emailing publishers and designers, but I can't do that if I don't already have your email. Share this around, and please send me a list of games that are RELEASING in the next 1-5 months to: chase@rascal.news

Musk has killed Twitter. It has lost 20% of its active users in the US in the last year. 30% in the UK. It’s also a cesspool—and one of the worst business gambits of all time, with Musk losing tens of billions. Previously, I explained why Musk illustrates what I call “The Myth of the Secret Genius.”

The Myth of the Secret Genius

From Elon Musk to Elizabeth Holmes and Donald Trump, many very rich people are effective at convincing us of a myth: they're secretly a genius, and you're just too dumb to understand. Are they right?

TTRPG Tip 51. #dnd defined three pillars of play: combat, exploration, and roleplaying. Not all RPGs use that model, but a game often has divisions that can help us understand game play and design. Each phase or division can also do something unique in the game vs. story generator dichotomy.
