Tangentially related - I wonder how this affects alcohol sales in stores with self-checkout. Is the hassle of having to wait 5 minutes for an attendant to check your id and confirm your purchase enough to make people skip getting that beer?

California dealt with it by just saying "no alcohol sales at self-checkout". Which is at least not confusing, but fails pretty annoyingly if they've got typical staffing levels at the registers.
