This one of the reasons that I ultimately dropped out of the sciences, among other things. I just could never get into the mindset that my advisor and others wanted where I state that I'm right and there's no alternative, and so of course you should publish this / fund my research / whatever

I was a scientific doodler. I like doing things and seeing if they work, and if they do, it's a huge delight. That's not what we're built to support though, even if some of my peers got excited by my ideas and results.
