Folks, you’re out over your skis about a URL having a date in it. They absolutely published the thing before the debate was over, that’s entirely fair to criticize. But that URL may only tell you when the page was initially created, which is often done ahead of time and then the text is added.

Here’s my only question - do opinion pieces require editorial review at the NYT prior to publication?
If I know I’m going to, for instance, write about the Emmys after they air, it would be totally normal for me or somebody else to create the skeleton of the page ahead of time. The URL might retain that creation date.
Why would we assume good faith on the part of Ross Douthat or the New York Times
I deleted my post because it looks like some other stories have a 9/25 date in the URL
It was also a column written by a guy who is personally friends with the candidate and wasn’t the house view of the paper. I don’t know why people are wrapped around the axle about Douthat being Douthat.
At a minimum it proves that nobody is actually editing the opinion page at all
