I forgot to add, if both partners’ countries impose an MIR, quite often there is actually *nowhere* that the family can live together

The UN convention on human rights enshrines the right to family life. The MIR for UK family reunification imposes an addendum: a right to family life *but not in the country of your birth*

For those who don’t know, for a British citizen to bring their foreign spouse to the UK, the *British citizen* must earn the MIR, which is usually discriminatory against British women with caring responsibilities. A simple change to *household income* would make a huge difference

Just listened to today’s @quietriotpod.bsky.social@pimlicat.bsky.social mentioned the MIR for work visas, but too many people don’t realise it applies to family reunification for British citizens too, with heartbreaking results. I’d love you to do an episode on that too 🙏
