It's been a lot of fun! This is the last year it'll be offered it in this particular format, unfortunately, but hopefully it'll rise again from the ashes someday.

Of course! It's a little sparse (I've been told to put things on our CMS to exclusion of other places as much as possible) but I'm happy to share. How would you like me to send it your way?

I often slip into it without being prompted! So it was nice to know I had a willing audience at least this time.

This is a topic I've wanted to write about since the very early days of my PhD, meaning that some version of it has lived in my head for almost eight years! I'm thrilled to finally have this in print. Please let me know if you have any questions; I've clearly got lots to say! 4/4

I've found that while we know a lot about individual legal genres, overall descriptions of legal English tend to have very little empirical support. Following a pilot study, I point out a few areas in which these descriptions are in need of at least some refinement. #linguistics 2/4

Thank you! It's exciting to have this out of our heads and into the world.

(Also exciting: this is actually not the article whose publication I said was "imminent" yesterday. Watch this space for more!)

My ice breaker is "what is your favourite way to eat potatoes." Then I get hungry.

I'll absolutely use this! It reminds me of my favorite classroom icebreaker: "Tell me the least interesting thing that's happened to you today." What a great way to prompt engagement while keeping the personal pressure low.
