By the way, if your registered to vote in Pennsylvania there is still time to request an absentee or vote-by-mail ballot. But you should do it very soon, especially if you are overseas, because the ballot must be back here by November 5. www.pa.gov/en/agencies/...

It's been a lot of fun! This is the last year it'll be offered it in this particular format, unfortunately, but hopefully it'll rise again from the ashes someday.

Of course! It's a little sparse (I've been told to put things on our CMS to exclusion of other places as much as possible) but I'm happy to share. How would you like me to send it your way?

Happy first day of teaching to all who celebrate! I can't believe this is already the third time I'm running my "Language and the Law" module. This year I've assigned a few of my own publications for the first time; that feels like a real academic milestone.

I'm fascinated by these "social media post as revocation of consent" things. They're essentially chain letters with a few legal-sounding terms thrown in to make them seem "powerful", but the second you try to really parse what's going on they all fall apart; classic SovCit behavior, really.

A partial screenshot of an Instagram story that says "Repub Goodby Meta AI. Please note an attorney has advised us to put thsi on, failure to do so may result in legal consequences. As Meta is now a public entity all members must post a similar statement. If you do not post at least once it will be assumed you are okay with them using your information and photos. I do not given Mea or anyone else permission to use any of my personal data, profile information or photos."

I often slip into it without being prompted! So it was nice to know I had a willing audience at least this time.

It happened to me: Over drinks tonight, someone unwittingly asked me if I knew anything about the exact topic of my PhD. The dream! #academicchatter

My future sister-in-law told me that one of the most immediate post-ceremony benefits is the relief that comes with no longer having to plan a wedding and I absolutely believe her! (I'm sure the biggest benefit for her was marrying @jajackson.bsky.social, of course)
