Using today to reflect on our shared histories. nctr.ca. 🧡 The photo below is of an eagle feather found by one of our research team members this summer while doing field work. The kiptu feather is now in BK's care on the behalf of the DEEHR team, following Mi'kmaq teachings.

An kiptu eagle feather laid on a red cloth, with two amethyst stones in the corner of red cloth.

OK...the NWS Bot collection is now fully populated and ready to go. I'm sure bugs will come up along the way, but I think it is 95%+ stable. There's an index page at nws-bot.us including a map (borrowed from NWS) to find the right bot for the area you want to follow.

Downy woodpeckers are also very busy this Fall term on the SMU campus in Halifax!

Monochromatic photo of birch tree trunks against a grey pebbled wall. A little downy woodpecker is busily inspecting the tree for tasty snacks on one of the trunks. Only colour is the little pop of red from the woodpeckers head feathers.

Since we're posting butterflies to celebrate @bsky.app passing 10M users, here's a monarch against a bright blue sky! (Taken last July. It's resting on one of my tomato stakes in between forays to the milkweed stands).

A bright orange monarch butterfly resting on an aluminum tomato stake. A part of a house and a bright blue sky can be seen in background.

Working through the first set of zooplankton identification for Sandy Lake (Bedford NS in Halifax Regional Municipality) in preparation for our class field work and an upcoming Aquatic Environments lab. It's always fun to take a first look at the data and see what's happening in the lake!

Microscope photographs of various cladorean and copepod zooplankton species, which are all slightly squished and beige-coloured.

Alas, my "bluesky" number has no particular meaning or numerology. 🤣 But apparently, I am a certified bluesky "elder"... 💾 In all honesty, I'm more than happy to be a member of @bsky.app, share my updates, and be a part of the growing various groups and discussions. 💙💙💙

A cropped portion of the "BlueSky Celebrating First 10 Million Users" image. The text says "Bluesky Elder Certified - First 10%".

Nova Scotia implements angling catch-and-kill orders for smallmouth bass in Margaree River & Lake Ainslie (Inverness Co) and LaHave River (Lunenburg Co) and chain pickerel in East River (Pictou Co). www.cbc.ca/news/canada/.... Hopefully it will help to protect the ecosystems in those watersheds!
