Oct. 19, 1980 | The Dome Grows As Mount St. Helens calms down, the new lava dome inside the crater is quickly making its presence known, reaching a height of 155 ft on Sunday. "We can expect almost anything from Mount St. Helens," said USGS's Susan Russell-Robinson. "We just don't know."

"We could see (the cloud of ash) outlined by the moon," Lone Fir Resort co-owner Don Platt told reporters. "It didn't look too big. It floated over the top of us." As of this morning, St. Helens is quiet, but scientists reiterate there are no signs of activity ending soon.
