A nation with the highest incarceration rate in the world asks, "Have you ever stopped to think of the treacherous consequences for applying the literal words of the 14th amendment to a rich white Republican who won't like it?"
A nation the traps Black people, brown people and poor whites in a inescapable carceral system, often over crimes rich whites get away with relatively seamlessly, wants you to step back & say, "Here's a technical reason you have to let rich white insurrectionists have a chance to destroy democracy."
America was founded on 2 things: 1) Tradition 2) White men imposing penalties on others that don't apply to them And at this point, it's a tradition.
Well, yes, but all the incarcerated people are ‘bad’ (which probably for a lot means minority) and he is rich and white (which to these same people means ‘good’) so there you have it
"LaWs aRe fOr pRoLeS, yOu dIrTy CoMmIe!!!!!"
a friend of mine once commented that Americans have the right _percentage_ of people incarcerated but not the right _people_ and that one sticks with me.
