In fact, I believe we should be replacing as much automobile travel with train and bus travel as practical.

I live in a city and I take the train everywhere I can. The train is a miraculous invention. The electric train is the pinnacle of human transportation technologies. These things should be everywhere.

A parable. When you go under the Bloor viaduct, only sometimes do you see a train. A certain disappointed kid might say, "The train tracks are always empty!" It's true, they are. And yet, that train moves half a million people every day, more than any of Toronto's highways.

The Bloor Viaduct as seen from the Don Valley Parkway. The subway can sometimes be seen crossing the bridge on the lower level.

A powerful lesson in bringing talent in-house to create and maintain an application instead of shoving money at a contractor to make it. Good things happen when you bring talented, passionate people together to work as a team.

The reason why people keep accidentally reinventing the humble city bus is because it's an amazing piece of transportation technology and difficult to improve upon.
