Not polisky, but if it's methods or general examples you're after, see Heckathorn's work on respondent-driven sampling of hidden populations. RDS has been used on jazz musicians, undocumented immigrants, drug users, people with HIV/AIDS, etc. Heckathorn & Salganik 2004 Soc Meth is 1 starting point.
