I'm always careful with the words "it's a nicer place to be": Threads, in its first weeks, was honestly a super nice place to be; Mastodon has many instances that have been great places to be for very long. But everything goes downhill once the dudebros and fascism apologists decide to join
Hi, I got literal death threats on Mastodon. 🙃
Blue Sky's been chugging along for considerably more than a few weeks.
I don’t know man, Threads felt like a weirdly corporate and sanitized place from the beginning
I beg to differ about Threads, the fact it was from $uckerberg's Meta is a red flag alone (the usual mass data grabbing, puritan rules, brands and ads everywhere, etc) and therefore should've never got the benefit of the doubt. Aside from that I agree and it's on us to protect this new space.
They've decided to join several times already, they've been run off every time. This is not fertile ground for them and the tools available support keeping it that way.
I keep reminding people that one of the reasons there are fewer trash accounts here (and spam bots) is that the site has a fraction of X's userbase. As it grows, those will come. However: Bsky already seems to have more robust tools for customizing/filtering feeds. That will minimize their impact.
Zuckerberg made Threads not long for the world as the algorithm was designed for you guessed it, Mark Zuckerberg's person gain.
