While I fully respect every couples choice to pick a common surname when they get married, somehow something inside me dies everytime I see a woman changing her name. Can't help it, but it makes me sad.

My wife opted to add mine to hers with a space between instead of a hyphen. Totally her choice and there was no pressure from me. One of my university professors opted to take his wife’s last name, which was an interesting turnaround from the usual US practice.

Sometimes it depends on family history and the name as such. But I know what you mean...
