Mathematician Marjorie Lee Browne, whose work focused on linear algebra, topology, and the properties of classical groups, was born #OTD in 1914. She was one of the first Black women to earn a PhD in mathematics in the US, from the University of Michigan. 🧪 👩🏾‍🔬

RIP Steve Silberman. We didn’t overlap at Wired (I don’t think) but that didn’t stop him from treating me like part of an extended alumni-family. A generous, curious and guileless journalist who modeled how to ask big questions and be open to unfamiliar answers. His memory is and will be a blessing.

Rather than holding fast to the norms and holding Trump accountable for violating them, the media has increasingly let Trump warp their sense of what's normal and lower the standards across the board. It's pathetic.

Oregon, which has one of the highest vaccine exemption rates for school children, is having its worst measles outbreak in >30 years…entirely in the unvaccinated. Antivaxxers don’t care about children; they’re selfish, ignorant adults forcing children to get preventable, potentially deadly, diseases

Swedish is like Linux. It's quite obvious how the language works, and you can make your own words. French is Apple. Try to make your own modifications and they will SEND YOU TO JAIL. English is your grandparents' PC. We have no idea how it works. Where did all these weird plug-in words come from??

"clue" originally meant "a ball of string" (spelt clew) since Theseus used a ball of string to find his way out of the Minotaur's labyrinth, "clue/clew" became a metaphor for "thing that helps you solve a puzzle" or "thing that points you in the right direction"

The best thing about Rage Against The Machine is that their lyrics are still relevant 30 years later. The worst thing about Rage Against The Machine is that their lyrics are still relevant 30 years later.
