They’re not the best written books ever, but by god they’re fun. Also, a mate of mine who’s borderline dyslexic and always hated reading as the words jumped about on the page for him, started on the Reachers and is now a regular reader for the first time in his life.

This isn’t bad writing (clichéd, derivative, unformed or unimaginative), it’s writing for a purpose. Really interesting. I guess because of what I typically read I’d never seen writing like this. It’s purposefully vivid in plain language.

I read it as being very good for people who need strong visual cues. Horses for courses.
