NEW: Britain’s broken. But none of us can agree how - or why Thanks to 50 years of the Ipsos issues tracker, I’ve looked at the UK’s biggest woes over time It shows our concerns are becoming increasingly detached from personal experience @thetimes.comwww.thetimes.com/article/8d7d...
More in Common tracker - along with all other polling - shows why the data does not fit the narrative. (Unless want to treat 38% of voters for two parties on the right as "the public", ignoring 52% of voters for 3-4 centre-left parties)
"Every poll now puts migration alongside NHS at top of voter concerns" (Trevor Phillios) Wrong for general public - but narrative esp among Cons & some in media. It briefly went joint top (spike in salience of riots). Mostly distant third (unless only count Cons/Reform vote, not general public)
The Tories have chosen to run an advert attacking the winter fuel cut (fair target) by leading with heartfelt testimony from actual pensioners (awww, so good) and the first pensioner in the video is a retired teacher (they get HOW much in occupational pension?)
It started off fairly normal & an exchange of opinions / points as you'd have between friends at a pub with slightly different takes. Then he just flipped out and became nasty for no reason. I think it's a combination of overfamiliarity encouraged by the medium & the lack of IRL social cues.
To be fair - that does seem to chime with the experience of quite a few 'new' MPs and is why the IfG has started running training in this area...
My nan retained her TV coin box thing until the mid 00's. The little wood box with a rotating key thing on the front got replaced around ~99 with a black alarm clock looking thing that only took £1 coins. She got most of it back - she used to use it as a savings box!
