I just added an update to the campaign that links math circle materials with some of mathematical pathways that start with Farzanah's puzzle: Egyptian fractions, continued fractions, Fibonacci numbers, and greedy algorithms. There's a lot of rich mathematics to explore.
Support "Farzanah and the 17 Camels" in the next 40 hours (9% to go)! 🤝 This storybook models excellent problem-solving. Help us bring to life thousands of happy math moments: bedtime stories, math circles, math art projects, and of course, lots of puzzles! #iTeachMath#MathSky#MTBoSkck.st/3Wyf5Lt
Today's prize for on-brand academic behaviour goes to the School of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Glasgow, for disguising their building as a chalkboard. (I'm informed that the elements were collected from working chalkboards in staff offices.)
That's the first time *I* hear about it for sure. It's funny because it's true.
"Farzanah and the 17 Camels" is a beautifully written, funny, and tender children's story by @looneymath.bsky.socialkck.st/3Wyf5Lt#MTBoS
I don't like how "dx" (or other such) at the end of integration visually blends into the formula being integrated. That info should come before you start integrating, anyway, not at the end. And if there's one variable? That one variable should be the default for integration without mentioning it!
In many cases, it's easier with INFINITELY many: aimathcircles.org/issue-52-a-s...
