in all seriousness, it’s pretty astonishing to see even the NYT being like yea the cops beat the shit out of protesters. www.nytimes.com/2024/05/19/n...
They generally mix it up though. They lie a lot and then they throw a truth in there. Atlantic does the same. It’s a way of keeping enough credibility so that people don’t simply 100% disbelieve them. (Even when not lying, if you know their priority on x issue, you can always spot the manipulation.)
Oh, fun fact: police who use excessive force such as punching and kicking may be sued for their actions and found liable, but guess who pays the settlements? How do you feel about your tax dollars—to the tune of MILLIONS of dollars—going to exonerate rogue cops?
Violently *confront* is a rhetorical choice meant to dilute the commentary.
Totally health Democratic country with their State sanctioned violent street gangs in every city.
My biggest realization of the last few years has been that people on the right-wing don't just condone violence, they love it. They are absolutely tickled pink by seeing protestors/dems/gays being beaten by the police, and only wish they could do it themselves.
That is really something. Usually NYT can be expected to side with fascist power tactics.
This being a Sunday might have more to do with that. We'll likely see this met with 9 op-eds Monday Morning about hero cops and terrorist college students to keep the cycle up.
There was a fist involved incident, hitting protestor's faces.
A broken calendar might be right once a year.
