I know some film lovers are irked by the hype around the Criterion Closet van. Capitalism, broken system, bad priorities, whatever. Engagement comes in many forms, and I'm never gonna be annoyed at people lining up to own physical media and celebrate and talk about great movies that they love.
Particularly when it is a younger demographic lining up to engage… let them participate however they want. The way in which we keep the culture alive may change but so long as it is continuing a love for and seeking out of cinema, I can’t be mad about it.
People are having a blast waiting in line, talking about movies, making friends, chatting with Isabella Rossellini. I think that’s neat!
What? This sounds amazing. A Wiener Mobile for film!
I am entirely unirked. I am, however, ENVIOUS with every microgram of my being. (I'd bet a good portion of the putatively irked actually share my condition.)
It still seems a bit gimmicky to me. Also, it comes to NYC first? Send it somewhere unexpected!
My friend recently did this in NYC. Took over 3+ hours but they enjoyed the hell out of it and got a bunch of dvds they wanted t 40% off. I'm happy they enjoyed themselves. I don't understand actively hating on ppl who enjoy things that have no affect on anyone/thing else.
