Iā€™m a big proponent that pastoral care is not just the job of the clergy. Caring for each other is not just a job for the ordained. Part of being laity is the ministry of community. Itā€™s why I love the idea of Stephen Ministry in particular.

Iā€™m so so sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. šŸ’œšŸ’œšŸ’œ

My fatherā€™s copies of Hatchett and Mitchellā€™s ā€œPraying Shapes Believingā€ have always been my own references besides ā€œThe Priestsā€™ Handbookā€ that I studied over during an internship. Curious what folks use now, especially since I hope to be at an episcopal seminary w/in the next few years.

Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servant Tammy and give your power of healing to those who minister to her needs, that she may be strengthened in her weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. šŸ’œ

Huh. TIL thatā€™s called Rite III! Iā€™m curious what youā€™ve learned about its usage as I canā€™t say Iā€™ve ever experienced it.

Is that the one in EOW? If so, I only learned about it semi-recently. I honestly cannot wait to take liturgics classes if I end up doing Anglican studies because it sounds like thereā€™s so much I missed out on with my worship class being just the last 3 weeks of preaching class at a PCUSA seminary.

As someone whose father impressed upon me at a young age his vast experiences of prison ministry, let me know if I can be of help from here.

I had to look this up but In fact we have! First in ā€˜58 then again in ā€˜79. Presiding Bishop Edmond Browning even sent a statement to congress and the president in ā€˜90 reaffirming our anti-death penalty stance. Itā€™s fascinating stuff from a church nerd perspective and def encouraging in this moment.

Iā€™m endlessly fascinated by how each diocesan process is so so different. I love that they have you doing the work already so you arenā€™t completely unprepared for seminary. My NT professor was the head of the SBL Luke unit for awhile so message if you need any help!
