I’m a big proponent that pastoral care is not just the job of the clergy. Caring for each other is not just a job for the ordained. Part of being laity is the ministry of community. It’s why I love the idea of Stephen Ministry in particular.

My father’s copies of Hatchett and Mitchell’s “Praying Shapes Believing” have always been my own references besides “The Priests’ Handbook” that I studied over during an internship. Curious what folks use now, especially since I hope to be at an episcopal seminary w/in the next few years.

I had to look this up but In fact we have! First in ‘58 then again in ‘79. Presiding Bishop Edmond Browning even sent a statement to congress and the president in ‘90 reaffirming our anti-death penalty stance. It’s fascinating stuff from a church nerd perspective and def encouraging in this moment.
