JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX: Phillips, Phoenix, Gaga et al fulfil their promise of delivering a sequel to JOKER, a full-blown musical, and a film for absolutely nobody…except possibly me. My ears are still ringing. Let’s see.

I, THE EXECUTIONER: Ryoo Seung-wan’s lively sequel to his excellent VETERAN comes down with a serious case of ROUNDUP-itis, ramping up the comedy at the expense of the (admittedly expertly staged) action. And yet another psychotic pretty boy bad guy zzz. Lands its punches but shoulda been way better

THE WILD ROBOT looks great but in the end is just another Messianic allegory, albeit via a self-learning AI that masters universal communication, inter-species diplomacy, forestry preservation and motherhood way better than any of the living, breathing creatures around it.

Bit of a mess this week with lots of stuff previewing during yesterday’s Mid-Autumn festival, but here’s what’s officially opening in Hong Kong this week: TRANSFORMERS ONE, THE BIKERIDERS (finally!), IT ENDS WITH US, BIG, MY BOO, ONCE IN A.BLUE MOON
