I’ve used the Ofqual analytics tool to separate out the A level Maths distributions for those who also take A level Further Maths and those who don’t. For the latter, the distribution looks similar to that for Chemistry A level.

Do you have a chart which shows the distribution for just Maths with the further maths students removed?

A happy discovery - I can embed Bluesky posts on Wordpress! colleenyoung.org/im-looking-f... Added to Exams 2024 post.

Interesting that there are further mathematicians get a U grade in normal maths. Like 32 kids getting Us surely someone should have intervened and not put them in for further maths

Thanks Graham! That’s really interesting. These comparisons always make me a bit nervous of people jumping to too many conclusions but it’s definitely good data xkcd.com/552/

That’s very interesting - I don’t think I’ve seen the FM students separated out like this before

Very interesting. All our A*s this year were FM students.

For those who like this sort of thing, here are the distributions from 2019-2024

Thanks Graham, Found this really interesting. With another rise in the grade boundaries it wiped out all our potential A*s from ‘only’ maths.
