Portals favoring internal hyperlinks over external hyperlinks is as old as AOL and Yahoo, and just as doomed in the long run.
Seems bad to let a corporate AI provide you with summaries, no?
Google is unusable now. Completely useless. I can't find information or links at all.
The idealized form of the corporate takeover of the internet is basically cable tv. All content will be pressed into the context maintained by whatever corporation owns the site you're looking at. There will be no escaping it to an ungoverned location except for authorized partners (advertisers).

It's not just social media, either--when was the last time you saw a link in a news article that wasn't to another page on their own site? They won't even link to the fucking court decisions or bills they're writing about.

The death of hyperlinks is just the natural progression of the death of expertise @radiofreetom.bsky.social warned us about years ago. We are doing this to ourselves.
