I’m now in the camp that thinks Rings of Power is pretty good*—it’s still a lil tacky, it’s not as good as the Peter Jackson movies, but it’s pretty good*. It’s giving season 5/6 Game of Thrones—not as good as earlier stuff, but not yet “falling off the cliff” bad. Just pretty good*.

Past students have enjoyed this Dog Breed Data visualization: informationisbeautiful.net/visualizatio... It's fun, it contains lots of data, but it's also a little confusing & requires engagement. Idk if it's beautiful, but certainly cute. It's made for good convos in class!

What are the best dog breeds according to data on dog intelligence, longevity & health? How does that tally with public popularity of various dog breeds?

Someone recently asked me what my favorite books in shop are right now. I couldn't answer on the spot, but after discussion with Kristina, I think we're leaning toward these three modern first editions:

A displayed front panel of the dust jacket of our inscribed first edition of The Philosophy of Andy Warhol.
The half-title page of The Philosophy of Andy Warhol. It shows his inscription which includes an original drawing of a Campbell's Tomato Soup can.
The front cover of our first trade edition of Rockwell Kent's illustrated Moby Dick.
A displayed front panel of our first edition of If They Come in the Morning by Angela Davis.

The first “Postcards to Swing States” party was well attended so we are inspired to do more. This week, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, we’ll be outside the Rose Bowl Tavern again (Urbana, IL). Then on Sunday, we’ll be at the Champaign Public Library on Green St. from 2pm to 4pm. Feel free to stop by!

A pile of postcards. On one side, they read “If you want it, vote for it Harris Walz” with an image of both candidates. On the other side, there is a usual postcard layout with space for a message, stamp, and address. There’s also a QR code to iwillvote.com
