I get occasional addictions to the word “villain.” So formal and gothic, so old, so exaggerated especially when swapped for more ordinary words.

So. Here I go again, telling the story of doofah. Doofah was, to my dad, like that card you turn over that can be used to mean anything you want. Doofah's daughter is jobbins. That's my word for anything I can't find the name of in my overloaded brain. But doofah still reigns supreme in my memory.

My favourite word at the moment is Iktsuarpok, which is also the title of my forthcoming poetry collection (2024)... It's an Inuit word which means 'The feeling of anticipation while waiting for someone to arrive, often leading to intermittently going outside to check for them.'

Maelstrom - it's the 'str' that gets me.
