For sure, I’m seeing something similar in the game development scene where people want to keep politics out of it because they don’t like “woke” I feel like being apolitical is a dogwhistle for being against progress and being for conservatism

Depends on which scene we're talking about. There are plenty of gamedev scenes that are very political, but most mainstream games either have it coded or nonexistent.

Game dev ultimately has to sell a product. You don’t want to alienate any considerable amount of your customer base, and that might mean keeping extreme politicss of any leaning out of games. Furry isn’t selling anything. It can be as political, kinky, and just plain weird as you want it to be.
