I finally read the whole thing, and it reminded me of a Twitter thread I had recently seen by a young person extolling McDonald's. The case was that it was cheap and quick. There's def something similar happening in food: people rebelling by conspicuously choosing to eat crap.

Well it does have a provision on the weirs used to catch fish, including eels I believe. Henry loved eels, which I understand had more of a firm, beef-like quality than fish flesh. Yum!

Yes- definitely worth a read if you're interested in history of government. Very important work of scholarship but also very well written.

Had a great time discussing @jctate1215.bsky.social's new book on litigation over advowsons at the ASLH conference. The scholarship on the early common law focuses on litigation over land, but Josh argues we should see advowson litigation as a central part of Henry II's reforms
