I’ll admit that I’m pretty troubled by the frequent denials and lack of sympathy for the grotesque sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th against Israeli women and girls.

Female settlers and colonists are still settlers and colonists. It's wrong, but also I believe that a lot of the reports of it happening were being sensationalized to justify genocide, just like white women were used to justify anti black and indigenous violence by colonial powers.
Max, I just don't see "frequent denials and lack of sympathy". What I do see is pushback against the selectivity of the outrage. I see questions about who benefits from the constant recounting of Hamas atrocities, when Israeli atrocities are being dismissed and actively abetted by our own leaders.
It’s a tough thing. On one hand there are hasbarist undertones to the messaging. On the other, yeah it’s true. Much of what happened on oct 7 rapidly became old news and the sheer horror, rapes, torture simply don’t register in the intl conversation or among many domestic allies in the USA.

Sorry, but this seems like an imagined slight. Aside from nutjob extremists, I don't see anyone defending Hamas's actions here. The entire attack was a war crime and beyond any imaginable view of warfare. Its not like more folks piling on the outrage train really helps anything....no???
The fact that it took a month for the UNs violence against women council to issue a statement, which they immediately deleted when it got blow back on Twitter may be one of the most daming indictments of the UN I've ever seen.

Most likely because of the oppressor/oppressed dynamic. Conflicts are too complex and multifaceted to be neatly divided into labels, once those boundaries break it becomes difficult to manage conflicting information that does not fit preexisting beliefs.
