one big difference between Republicans and Democrats is that when an R officeholder commits blatant ethics violations their defenders are all "who amongst humanity would not put their fingers in the pot if offered the chance? it's simple human nature" but Democrats are all like "yeah get his ass"

I’ve never had to preface a moral or ethical conversation with a disclaimer about my politics. Was struck the other day when a Trump worshipper in the neighborhood introduced his thoughts with: “despite my politics…”
That is the positive side of the difference. The negative side is that Democrats engage in the same "get his ass" behavior over things that are mere differences of opinion/emphasis/strategy, while cult-like devotion is the norm among Republicans. Unfortunately, their approach is more effective.
