This is the first I’ve ever personally heard of this effect (I am still new, though). However, I’m inclined to agree. We start off every general psych class saying that you can’t trust common sense. Why is it that later we seem to do nothing but? If it’s in your bandwidth, test the thing!

Is the retraction a win and final proof of the effectiveness of preregistration? Or proof, once and for all, that open science is all bullshit? Neither. It's just a hugely disappointing error.

Prospective grad students now are advised that they NEED to do these meetings if they even want a shot at getting even an interview for PhD Programs. If we don’t we’re told to not even bother applying.

An increase in these meetings could indicate more people getting into academia as first-generation students. (2/2)

It’s certainly not great from a DEI perspective and certainly not sustainable. But, I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. As a first-gen student there’s so much about the application process that’s left unsaid unless you ask the right person. This being one of them. (1/2)
