This happens, and keeps happening, and it's absolutely awful. It's to the point where no one should ever call for a "wellness check", because how do you live with the fact that you set off this cascade of events? We need social workers, not police, for wellness checks.

Eastern NC is prepared for this kind of stuff because it gets slammed by hurricane effects big and small every year. Western NC? This doesn’t happen.

Here’s what I firmly believe about climate catastrophes: the answer is never to place blame or to shrug and say certain people need to “just move.” There is no place that isn’t going to need help in some kind of a catastrophe.
