There is no better pick me up for a dev than watching a video of their game, from a few months ago. It’s very easy to forget how utterly shitty your last build looked, but I promise,it looked terrible. It played even worse.

A good thing to do throughout dev is occasionally archive off steam builds to a beta branch, so you can easily roll back your steam version to much earlier ones, and go play em.

Correlary: there's nothing more depressing on a remotely "live" game to look at the trailers on your store page and realize oh god I'm still running that launch trailer? THAT one? That I scraped together out of the bits left from the (better) date announce trailer? 💀

It's good to get used to seeing old builds too, so you're prepared when the terrible old screenshot you put in the announcement press release gets used as the main image in every article about the game for the rest of time.
