I liked the book and watched the film ā€˜The Way Backā€™ quite a few times. Perhaps it didnā€™t happen to the author himself but there appears to be enough of an essential truth to the story to not dismiss it completely. An incredible tale of survival and endurance.

Excellent #histbookchat! I have not done either but having read Devotion and Spearhead (which incidentally was the prompt for my two tank builds) I would say that your advice is very sound. šŸ‘Œ

If you know me then you know I want to read every single word that has ever been written about Lt Col Anderson and this was the primary reason why I bought this book. It is, however, a gorgeous book which tells the stories of many men from different generations who were incredibly brave in battle.

Food for thought for when I consider future themes! I would personally go C first followed by A.

I picked up an interest in that when I was a schoolchild. After quickly exhausting our encyclopaedias at home I clearly remember bussing it to the public library and sitting at the big table for hours reading their stuff!

Iā€™ve got this book too by Doreen Hurst which includes many stories and personal accounts including those of her own parents Johnny and Lillian Funk who joined the underground resistance. Johnny Funk survived horrendous torture by the Kempei Tai.
