I believe this: Because life is self-organizing and regenerating, even the very tiny shifts we make away from harm and towards sustenance of life open up possibilities that compound upon themselves.

The Breadcrumb Trail has a zoom launch this Thursday (4th April, 8pm BST)! If you'd like to watch me perform 'Raindrop and Ruby' and others from the book with Susan Richardson, @missyerem.bsky.socialeventbrite.co.uk/e/lawrence-m...#poetry

Raindrop and Ruby

What must the tooth fairies think?

Not the prefects
who obligingly take shape
beside the sleeping child's pillow
to perform a graceful swap
and fleet escape,

but those who entered fairy school
with talents too unruly,
now left to lug
their plate-sized coins
like Raindrop in search of Ruby?

What will she surmise
on dodging sozzled revellers
and strange metallic tubes
unheard of in Victorian times
when last they turned her loose?

When she levers
onerous letter box,
glides under door
and over threshold before
she performs the official rite,
will it seem worth it
as she accelerates into the night?

We may be sure,

for what judgement would be filed
against this contract
between a tooth fairy and her child?

No words. Not one word in any language brutal enough for Israel’s evil atrocities. We must do more, try harder, do everything we can. Do not look away. Bear witness. Act in every creative way—person to person, room to room, street to street—to stop the genocide. Free Palestine.
