Now that I have slept on it, my 2 cents on Macron’s choice to appoint Barnier (nothing too innovative, I fear). It seems to me to be yet another high risk strategy from Macron. By appointing a PM that comes from the Right, and does not offend the RN, he’s bought him some time.

He has solved (potentially) the problem of not having a government to pass the budget. As long as he doesn’t try to do anything too extravagant, Barnier will be allowed to keep his place as PM. And by ‘will be allowed’, I mean the RN will allow him to do his job.
