oof, that sounds brutal it's funny uh, one of my early thoughts on wanderstop was to see how much animation sharing we could do between chars with very different body types and the answer ended up being "it's genuinely faster to make bespoke anims for each char than try to solve this" lmao

I do not have vault access, tragically, but tihs sounds like something it'd be very good for me to watch so maybe if i get into the igf jury again this year I'll keep my complimentary all access pass instead of giving it out lol

I totally agree with you, fwiw - I think it's one of those cases where...I've been working in games specifically in this domain - rigging and tech animation - for 10+ yrs and while I have no AAA exp, I absolutely would have no clue how to solve this problem in a way that AAA fidelity would accept

when I look at what they're doing with the detail on the outfits it's like oh, right, I bet that's why they're being very conservative with body scaling, because with that level of geometry complexity you can't easily stretch every outfit in and out like you used to be able to in older games

Every time something gets added to one of these chars that substantially changes stuff like... how long are their limbs, where are the different important parts of their body, etc, it requires more and more tech fixes, right?

...I got a comment on my ladder climbing recently from someone who was talking about how hard it is to do ladder climbing on protags when characters can be super short or super tall, and like.. whoof. I wouldn't even know where to start with something like that.
