Woo hoo!!! Finally!! They apparently would actually have been very faintly visible down here, but: marine layer. There are pics from Mount Wilson, though.

These were very faint due to both cloud cover and light pollution, but still visible! I caught them out of the corner of my eye as I was about to give up and leave the park. Part of what threw me for a loop is the fact that they first appeared most prominently in the NE rather than due N.
