I understand the incentives not being aligned in general? But, how about tenured faculty with secured appointments and established reputation? Can they bear the initial burden until this becomes the new norm?

No idea. I am just trying to thread a needle that lets me spend time thinking about the ideas that energize me, with flexibility in time management and intellectual focus. I try to ignore the faculty-track stuff b/c I fear it will lead me to chase pipe dreams to inevitable failure and/or discontent.
