The people I have talked to on the ground have consistently referred to ongoing federal efforts and named them as being crucial while also emphasizing that those efforts are not reaching everyone. Part of the issue there is the scale of the disaster and nature of the terrain. It's not abandonment.
The "people say they haven't seen government yet" headlines simply confirm there are people who haven't seen them yet.
Under Trump, we saw true abandonment after Hurricane Maria. We saw 3,000 people die unnecessarily. Many people will be found dead in the coming days, but it won't be because the government wasn't trying to save people. You don't have to like Biden or the .gov (I don't) to admit this distinction.
