Thanks for the thread and the biography recommendation! Moving from PA to SC as a kid was a shock to the system IRT Civil War history. I’m glad Grant’s reputation (and now Butler’s) is being restored.

My dad was born in TX and then moved to other states. Had to relearn the history of the War Of Yankee Aggression, which other states said had been about slavery and not just Yankees being jealous of their economy.
