I was young enough that "oh they'd never kill a main character like that" wasn't even something that occurred to me, I thought I was going to die of the suspense

I wouldn't find out until much later that people thought Return of the Jedi and the Ewoks sucked, because that was the opposite of my experience.

Dating myself here, but I was very young when I saw Return of the Jedi in the theater and people had the time of their lives. When that scout trooper got wound up in the ewok's rope trap and exploded against the tree the crowd was on their feet screaming.

just tell jokes that are darkly subversive while in no way transgressing against anything that anyone might possibly find sacrosanct, why is that so much to ask

Or at the very least, don't follow haus of decline if you're that delicate ffs.

I want a story that explores why the ghosts look so different and wild. Like is that residual self-image? Does the afterlife do such incomprehensible things to you that you can appear as a hundred-foot-tall Abraham Lincoln? And if so, why?
