What I’m saying is that I think the Murdoch/Dacre/current Tory strategy might be to specifically target older people with brain damage, to trigger their fractured memories with words and images that feel familiar and reassuring to them. No one younger than 78 now actually did national service.

My father lost out on a special post-war scholarship to Cambridge for Jewish boys because of his National Service. This policy might have put him off the Tories if Brexit hadn't already done the job

I think it might be even older than that. My uncle is about to turn 80 and he just missed out.
