Maybe you got the surface book instead of the surface pro? The surface pro (the tablet) doesn't come with a keyboard de facto. You actually have to buy it separately usually. It magnetically connects to the tablet when in use. It's very easy to detach and put aside should you want to work w/o it!
By bending backwards, do you mean sitting on a adjustable stand? The new ones do come with a stand that collapses on to the surface's back when you're not using it. It's attached. And I should correct what I said originally. I use the surface pro (tablet). Surface book is a full blown laptop.
Surface book pro is what I use. It's essentially a Windows laptop, so it's as pricey as one, but you get all the programs you would get on a regular desktop/laptop!
