Maybe you got the surface book instead of the surface pro? The surface pro (the tablet) doesn't come with a keyboard de facto. You actually have to buy it separately usually. It magnetically connects to the tablet when in use. It's very easy to detach and put aside should you want to work w/o it!

Or it could have just been an older model. Whichever it is, it shouldn't be a problem this time around!
