Tom Gara's not over here, but HT to him for this fascinating study of why Britain's economy has stagnated while France's is successful despite higher taxes and more regulation. The three big reasons? France kept building housing, rail/trains, nukes; while the Brits did not -- ukfoundations.co
Why Britain has stagnated
Have you seen our (France) Deficit and Debt ? Barnier and everyone are promising no tax increases on the Middle Class so the deficit is going to be reduced by spending cuts We’ve been spending money we don’t have and no idea on whether to cut back or increase taxes more
While I'm very much in the market for this (and will definitely read), the idea that the UK has fallen behind France is very debatable
“DESPITE higher taxes” is surely partisan? Surely the taxes provide the € to build the nuclear power plants, railways and social housing?
Ok a lot of this makes sense but the idea that the DMA is “destructive regulation” that the U.K. has done well to avoid is simply wrong.
