It's almost impossible to stop something cold turkey unless you replace it w/something else. Smokers chew gum or toothpicks. Find a "chewing gum" analogue for your issue. I had intrusive thoughts that kept me from falling asleep for years. Long story short, I found soothing thoughts to replace them.
