Sure. People aren't doing to do that. They will drive at the maximum allowed speed. You put it at 55, they will drive at 55. You put it at 50, they will drive at 50. You put it at 45, they will drive 45.

I think inherently ticketing for 1mph over is bad. There's just too many variables. We are not robots, we cannot be asked to act as precisely as robots. Maybe when we get full computer driving. 5mph, fine. I've been ticketed for 5mph over, asked for a warning, and the cop refused. Fair game.

It's a useful word. It's overused, like any useful word, but it's a useful word. And not even an insult. One of the most important things you can do when trying to weigh a situation like this is to try to understand if you are coming from a point of privilege and what you can do to overcome that.

A cop won't waste his time with 1mph over. He knows that can easily be contested in court. Again, because calibration isn't that precise. Judges usually throws those sorts of cases out. A machine cannot be reasoned with.

My concern is calibration. I do not trust any municipality, especially those that get most of their revenue from tickets, to have correctly calibrated sensors.

You are trying to flee an abusive husband. He is a cop. You have a head start but he has access to those traffic records. He knows your car, he knows your tag. Where do you flee that is safe from this man?

It does come with a certain level of privilege. Try to put yourself in the place of a woman in an abortion-illegal state trying to navigate state lines, or multiple state lines, to get to a clinic. The state(s) you are fleeing knows those corridors. You are at a traffic light. Do you feel safe?
