First of all - it is not for physics. Machine learning isn't physics. And if someone tells you it is a physics tool they are a liar. Topically incorrect. Make your own awful "destroying the world with computers" prize.

if machine learning is physics because it's a tool to do physics, then the inventors of construction vehicles that helped build every bigger particle accelerators should DEFINITELY get all the Nobels.

Second of all, Hinton is quoted as basically saying "I quit my job to tell people AI is awful (except he's very much old so I think we call that retirement) after it's made me rich, but also I have no regrets about anything!"
