I worry that the Nobel Prize committee assumes that since they gave Manabe and Hasselmann the prize in 2021, that they are done with climate science for the next century. That's a bad assumption, but it's one I can see them making. These prizes are a mess.

Reading his profile, Hopfield’s background is pretty solidly in physics, to be fair. He moved more into bio & neuro fields later in his career.

Hopfield is a straight-up physicist. Hinton less so but the guy used statistical mechanics to do it.

It's more math than physics and there ain't no Nobel Prize for math but I lost all respect for Nobel Prize recipients ages ago.

All of this to say - The Nobel prizes continue to be GARBAGE WITH GARBAGE SAUCE (I know, I know). And if anyone on the committee wants me to yell at them so they start acting right, just call. You don't have to do this big splashy awful choice to get my attention.
